It doesn’t matter how long a man lives on earth, what matters is the the quality of life the man lived. Whatever a man achieves on earth, is in conformity with his destiny, it only requires time, preparation and opportunity to come to fruition. Right from creation, man’s activities has always been regulated by time. Our thoughts, plans, desires, dreams, goals, and aspirations in life, are all regulated by time. Success in life, is when preparation meets with opportunity. There must be a time in life preparation and opportunity must meet to bring about our desired success. Every success and achievements in life must definitely go through the process of time before it can be realized. And until that set time comes, we can do nothing but to wait, and when it comes, nothing can stop it. Even God, during creation set a time for everything he created. No wonder the holy scripture said in, Ecclesiates 3:1, “To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heavens”. A time to be born, and a time to die, a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to break down and a time to build up, a time to weep, and a time to laugh, a time to mourn, and a time to dance, and the list goes on. This undoubtedly reveals that life is a process of time. Have you ever taken the time to ponder on why we have day and night? Why we have the seasons, winter and summer? Why a child has to stay 9 months in the womb before being given birth to? Or why a child has to take such a long time to grow into maturity? Why can’t these things just happen within a twinkling of an eye, like we’ve always seen them happen in films? It all points to the fact that everything in life is moderated and regulated by the process of time. The essence is all to add value to life, and compliment each others activities. Just like you can never the see the day and night struggling for time or position, or see the summer and the winter battling for the season ,one must definitely give way for another to come in and add its own value to life. God is the master planner, he is the greatest mathematician and scientist, he has done a material balancing on the world long time ago. Have you ever considered that for every one person that died anywhere in the world, there is always a replacement for that person somewhere else? He has destined a particular time for everyone to contribute positively, and add value to life, but most people fail to get to this destination because of ignorance and impatience. You definitely need to understand that time is very necessary to get to the height you’ve been destined to get to in life. Impatience has robbed so many people of their great destiny, because they want it to happen like in the Hollywood movies. Hope you’re not part of them? God brings down one, and sets up another, you never can tell what you might become tomorrow. If the president of any country dies today, will that make the country to remain stagnant? Definitely not, somebody somewhere must continue, that is how life was designed to be, and it is the will of God. This is what i call “material balance “, what goes out must be proportionate to what comes in. It is only time that can tell what a man will be, it isn’t by how fast and smart you are, or by your craftiness, or how experienced and knowledgeable you are, or by your intelligence. It is simply a matter of time and your personal preparation for that destination. “I returned and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill, but time and chance happeneth to them all” ~ Ecclesiates 9:11. This further butresses my point that achieving your goals, dreams and aspirations in life, isn’t by how fast, strong, wise, skillful or intelligent you are, it is a matter of time and opportunity. When that time and opportunity meets, the product will be an amazing success. The only thing you ought to be doing, is to keep preparing yourself for that great destiny that is yet to be delivered to you, by occupying yourself with meaningful activities. Don’t relax and just expect it to come on a platter of gold, you must be engaged in positive activities aimed at adding value to life. A lot of people also fail to get to their destination, because they fail to prepare themselves for it. We often get excited after seeking for our first job, especially the entry level jobs for a very long time and finally landed it. We are so full of excitement, and baffle in the euphoria of landing our dream job, With all enthusiasm and zeal to put in our best in the job and make positive impacts in the organization. However, after some years, our enthusiasm, passion and dreams seems to be waning gradually, we begin to treat everything with levity, and start exhibiting some lackadasical attitude. This attitudes consequently affects our career, and the management of the organization. It leads to low productivity, inefficiency and probably redundancy. Here the 5 mistakes we often make at the workplace that’s probably killing our career. 1. PROCRASTINATION: This is one mistake that often slows down our progress in life. Procrastination is a time killer, it is a dream and success killer. It delays our success in life, and may eventually deny us of it. Procrastination is putting forward what you should do now. It is like deliberately pushing back the hands of the clock when actually the time is moving forward. Procrastination at the workplace, means delaying our duties or activities for today, and pushing it over to the next day. Everyday has its own activities, and we can only make the best of our day when we are able to deliver the activities for that particular day. Procrastination leads to work overload at the workplace, because we unknowingly accumulate all the activities in one day. This consequently leads to stress and low productivity at the workplace. In order to prevent this, we should be disciplined, and endeavour to avoid procrastination, and cultivate the habit of “doing it now”. 2. INDIFFERENCE: Exhibiting indifferent attitude at the workplace is certainly not the best for our career and for the organization. We have to be aware of what is required of us, and contribute meaningfully to the growth of our organization. Participating actively in issues that affects the organization, and bringing up our own ideas and suggestions will help to build the organization, and also develop our Career. By doing this, we are carving out a niche for ourselves, and we remain relevant and indispensable to the organization. 3. NOT MEETING DEADLINES: The desire of the management of any organization is to deliver on time and meet up deadlines, especially when it has to do with delivering quality products and services. Giving excuses for not being able to deliver when required, is usually not the best, as it can hamper the reputation of such organization. This can also affect your career as an employee of that organization, or someone trusted with the task of delivering such deliverables and meet up deadlines. Always endeavour to meet up deadlines and deliver on time, but if for any reason you’re not able to meet the required time limit, the organization should be notified before time, so as to take some necessary measures to prevent any delay. 4. LACK OF IMPROVEMENT: Sometimes we often get satisfied with our daily routine duties or activities at the workplace, and forget every opportunity for improvement. But this is obviously not the best, and will definitely not help our career nor the organization. There’s always room for improvement and advancement in any profession. Improvement can be achieved through making some researches about our career, in order to get more ideas and knowledge and use them to add more value to our career and the organization. 5. NOT DOING THE RIGHT THING AT THE RIGHT TIME: Proper time management is one key ingredient that’s necessary for success to be achieved. Time management means doing the right thing at the right time. The workplace is always full of activities, sometimes we have to combine our family responsibilities with our job or career. This definitely requires proper planning and time management, in order to achieve our desired success. We need to prioritize our activities, and set the time for each activity, then, conscientiously follow the time. Proper time management will help reduce our workloads, and save us the stress of contemplating on what to do next or what not to do. In order to be successful in your job or career, you need to properly organize your time and set your priorities right. This will help you and your organization achieve more.
