Organizational conflicts are indeed very common in our contemporary times. This conflicts are usually because of divergent views, opinions and ideologies among the employers and the employees. And if these differences are not well articulated, it often leads to conflicts at the workplace, which may consequently lead to breakdown of law and order, hampers the production capacity of such organization, and probably, forcing the organization to shut down. Conflicts in many organization is traceable to prolonged ill-feelings among the employees of that organization, concerning handling of different issues by the management of the organization. The best tool for managing conflicts is to avoid it. Conflicts should be avoided anywhere, because if allowed to occur, its consequences might be extremely damaging. Below are 9 ways organizations can avoid or prevent conflicts at their workplace. 1. GOOD WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The management of every organization must endeavour to provide a good working environment for their workers. Inability to provide a good working environment for all workers is definitely a major source of conflicts at the workplace. This also will undoubtedly lead to inefficiency among the workers, low productivity, lack of motivation to work, or a decrease in the morale of the workers. And if these anomalies are not quickly looked into and allowed to continue without cessation, it may lead to conflicts and agitations among the workers, especially when there’s no channel of communication. 2. BENEFITS/INCENTIVE: Incentives and benefits are morale boosters. They increase the workers ability and motivations to get the job excellently and efficiently done. Therefore, every organization should endeavour to include benefits and incentive packages in their policies, this will help to improve the workers attitude to their jobs and encourage them to work harder. But if this is not the case, it may lead to comparison, especially if some other organizations has incentive/benefits packages for their workers, and may eventually lead to confrontations and conflicts. 3. COMMENTS/SUGGESTIONS PLATFORMS: Organizational conflicts often ensues as a result prolonged ill-feelings among the workers, about different policies or handling of issues by the management of the organization. Sometimes, when there’s no medium of expression, this perceived ill-feelings may further lead to external conflicts when it has become unbearable or left unresolved. Therefore, every organization, should as a matter of responsibility include a comment or suggestion platforms so as to know the mind of their workers. 4. ORGANIZATIONAL POLICIES: The policies adopted by any organization definitely affects the productivity and well being of their workers. Their policies may either motivate the workers to do more for the organization and improve productivity, or kill their motivation and hamper productivity. Therefore, the organization’s policies should be consistent with modern values and obtainable in other organizations. Inconsistency in organizational policies may become burdensome to the workers and may lead to conflicts. 5.EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION: Every organization must have effective way of communicating with its staffs and workers. Communication is one effective tool of conflict prevention and management. It keeps the workers abreast of recent policies and development in the organization. Communication usually pacifies any agitation or impending conflicts, because when the workers are not informed, they will remain deformed, and might carry out nasty behaviours. 6. FUNCTIONAL ORGANIZATION: A functional organization is an organization where each department or section of that organization has its own supervisor and supervises or oversees the activities of his or her workers. This can also be a very good way of preventing and managing conflicts, since the supervisor is more closer to the workers, and knows their challenges more than the management of the organization. 7. LABOUR LAWS: There are definitely laws guiding workers roles and responsibilities to their organizations, and that guiding the management roles and responsibilities to their workers in every country. If these laws are adhered to, i believe we will have less conflicts at the workplace. 8. QUARTERLY MEETINGS: Every organization should endeavour to always hold a quarterly meetings with its staffs and workers. Where everyone has the liberty to express their views and opinions. As this will definitely help the management to be aware of the challenges of their workers and also know their mind. It is a sure way of preventing conflicts at the workplace. 9. IMPLEMENTATION OF AGREEMENT: Agreements are binding, and must be maintained. After the discussions and negotiation , comes the implementation stage. At this stage, every agreement concord to, must be implemented to the latter, both on the part of the management and the workers. But the onus is always more on the management.
