It is undoubtedly obvious that leadership problem has been the bane behind the underdevelopment of many countries, and it is also responsible for the poor management of many organizations, industries, companies, groups or societies. Although, the fact that leadership has its own onus and challenges cannot be ruled out, however, a great leader will definitely surmount all those challenges and make a difference. The truth is that some of our contemporary leaders that often assumes leadership positions lacks the minimum requisite skills, qualities, and strong values that makes an efficient and effective leadership, and there are many loop holes in their leadership styles. Building strong values is one essential ingredient of a dynamic and effective leadership. A leader without strong values cannot make a good and efficient leader. Strong values and strong institutions are the foundation of effective leadership. Without these values and strong institutions, that leadership has no foundation, and it will definitely collapse when faced with challenges. An effective leader must re-invigorate the weak institutions around him, he or she must consistently assess the tools and techniques that is being used in his or her leadership roles and responsibilities, in order to discover the areas that needs to be strengthened and the tools to be used or the ones to be discarded. Leadership is all about positive influence, influencing your followers through your character. Sometimes, you don’t need to say much as a leader, but your character and the actions you take is enough to pass the message across to your followers. Influence is very important in leadership, some leaders, leads without really influencing their followers positively, a leader influences more through a positive character and actions, not by words. A leader should be a model, set a pattern and be quintessential in all his or her deeds. A leader must have a very strong positive and polite character that brings about positive influence among his/her followers. There should be the willingness to serve and the desire to make positive impacts, and leave a legacy that will stand the test of time. The overall desire of any leader should be to add value to life by impacting positively on peoples lives, and leave an indelible mark for the future generation.
